The Deliberate Crash In 1966, NASA had a problem. Lunar Orbiter 1 was still circling the Moon. Its radio signals were blocking the next mission. So engineers made a choice. They commanded it to smash into the far side. A $16 million spacecraft, destroyed on purpose. It worked perfectly.
