Lawnchair Larry Larry Walters was 33. He worked as a truck driver. In July 1982, he tied 42 weather balloons to a Sears lawn chair. He drank a beer and cut the tether. He rose to 16,000 feet over Los Angeles. Airline pilots near LAX radioed the tower. He shot balloons with a pellet gun to come down.
