The Man Who Sold Running to America Jim Fixx wrote the 1977 bestseller on jogging. He convinced millions to lace up. On July 20, 1984, he collapsed mid-run in Vermont. He was 52. The autopsy found one coronary artery 95% blocked, another 85%, a third 70%. His father had also died of a heart attack at 43.
