In 2018, a submarine expedition led by Fabien Cousteau and Richard Branson descended to the bottom. They found a layer of hydrogen sulfide at ~90m — below it, no oxygen, no life, just unidentifiable mystery tracks and dead conches that had fallen in and suffocated. And two human bodies nobody has recovered.
