The Hiroshima of K-19 July 4, 1961. A Soviet sub's reactor began melting down. Eight men volunteered to enter the compartment. They wore only improvised gear and gas masks. They welded a new cooling line by hand. All eight were dead within three weeks. The crew nicknamed their boat Hiroshima.
