The Strangers in the Sand The Taklamakan Desert hides 4,000-year-old mummies. Tall. Red and blond hair. Woven tartan clothing. Found by Swedish explorer Folke Bergman in 1934. For decades, scientists assumed they came from Europe. Then a 2021 Nature study sequenced their DNA. They were locals. Isolated for thousands of years.
