A dropped wrench nearly nuked Arkansas. π₯ . . . On September 19, 1980, airman David Powell dropped an 8-pound socket 80 feet down a Titan II silo near Damascus. It pierced the rocket's fuel tank. Hours later the missile exploded, killing airman David Livingston and blasting a 9-megaton warhead 100 feet into an Arkansas ditch. It did not detonate.
