On March 11, 1958, Captain Bruce Kulka of a B-47 grabbed a lever to steady himself over Mars Bluff, South Carolina — and released a Mark 6 nuclear bomb. The conventional trigger detonated in Walter Gregg's yard, wounding six Greggs and blowing a 70-foot crater. The nuclear core, luckily, was stored separately in the plane.
