His chromosomes were shattered into dust. ☢️ . . . On September 30, 1999, technician Hisashi Ouchi triggered a criticality accident at the Tokaimura fuel plant in Japan. He absorbed 17 sieverts of radiation — 8 is fatal. His DNA was destroyed instantly, his skin fell off, and his heart stopped 3 times. Doctors kept him alive for 83 days against his family's wishes.
