A tortoise born before the first photograph is still eating lettuce today. π’ . . . Jonathan hatched around 1832 and arrived on Saint Helena in 1882 as a gift to the governor. At roughly 192, he is blind, has no sense of smell, and is hand-fed cucumber and carrot every Sunday by vet Joe Hollins. He has outlived 40 British monarchs' worth of time β and 8 governors in a row.
