The Parrot Who Said Goodbye Alex the African grey worked with Dr. Irene Pepperberg for 30 years. He knew 100+ words, colors, shapes, even the concept of zero. On September 6, 2007, his last words to her were simple. 'You be good. I love you. See you tomorrow.' He died that night.
