The 29-Year War Hiroo Onoda hid in the Philippine jungle. World War II had ended in 1945. He didn't believe it. He kept fighting until 1974. Leaflets and family photos failed. Only his old commanding officer, flown in by Japan, could finally order him to stand down. He formally surrendered on March 10, 1974.
