Dug Up to Be Burned John Wycliffe died peacefully in 1384. He had translated the Bible into English. Rome disapproved. In 1428, 44 years later, papal order came. His corpse was exhumed. His bones burned. His ashes scattered into the River Swift at Lutterworth. Punishment finally delivered.
