The Champion Who Saved Twenty Yerevan, September 16, 1976. A trolleybus plunged off a dam into the lake. It sank 10 meters with 92 people aboard. Finswimming champion Shavarsh Karapetyan was jogging nearby. He dove in repeatedly and pulled out 37 people; 20 survived. He collapsed into a coma with sepsis and pneumonia. His career was over. He never competed again.
