The Stationmaster Cat

The Stationmaster Cat In 2007, a tiny Japanese rail line was going bankrupt. They hired a calico cat named Tama. She wore a custom cap and sat at the gate. Ridership climbed and tourists arrived in waves, bringing an estimated 1.1 billion yen in economic impact. When Tama died in 2015, three thousand mourners came to her Shinto funeral.
