Dead Stick At Mach Four June 29, 1967. Pete Knight rode the X-15 rocket plane to Mach 4.17. Then everything died. No electrical power at altitude. No engine. No instruments. He glided the black needle down. He landed on Mud Lake dry bed. Stick and rudder only.
