One dam unleashed 12.4 billion gallons before midnight. 🌊

One dam unleashed 12.4 billion gallons before midnight. 🌊 . . . At 11:57 p.m. on March 12, 1928, California's St. Francis Dam collapsed. A wall of water reportedly reached about 140 feet in San Francisquito Canyon and traveled 54 miles toward the Pacific, killing more than 400 people. Its chief engineer had inspected it that same day. USGS estimates the release at roughly 12.4 billion gallons.
