The Septic Tank in Tuam Local historian Catherine Corless wondered about a vanished home. It had housed unmarried mothers from 1925 to 1961. Death records listed 796 children. No graves existed. Her findings made headlines in 2014. In 2016–2017, investigators excavated the grounds in Galway. They found the remains in a disused septic tank.
