The Whale Who Took a Wrong Turn October 1985. A humpback named Humphrey swam into San Francisco Bay. Then 69 miles up the Sacramento River. He got stuck near Rio Vista for 26 days. Rescuers banged on underwater pipes. They herded him back to the sea like a lost dog.
