Killed by the Gentlest Animal Steve Irwin wrestled crocodiles for a living. He handled venomous snakes bare-handed. On September 4, 2006, he was filming off Queensland. A stingray — normally harmless — flicked its tail. The barb struck his heart. Such deaths are considered globally rare. 'Ocean's Deadliest' became his final film.
