There is a lake that could suffocate 2 million people in minutes π«₯ . . . Lake Kivu sits between Rwanda and the DRC. Trapped in its depths: 300 cubic km of COβ and 60 cubic km of methane. If disturbed by an earthquake or volcanic vent, the gas erupts upward in a silent invisible cloud. The last time a smaller African lake did this β Lake Nyos, 1986 β 1,746 people died in their sleep.
