One man had 15 minutes to decide if WWIII was starting. ☢️ . . . On September 26, 1983, Soviet officer Stanislav Petrov saw his screen at Serpukhov-15 flash 'LAUNCH' — five US nukes inbound. Protocol said report it. He waited. It turned out to be sunlight glinting off clouds at 36,000 feet. He was reprimanded for not filing the paperwork.
