The US Air Force lost a hydrogen bomb under Greenland's ice — and never found it. 🧊 . . . On January 21, 1968, a B-52 caught fire at 35,000 feet and slammed into the sea ice near Thule Air Base carrying four 1.1-megaton warheads. Three were recovered from the wreckage. The plutonium core of the fourth is still down there, somewhere beneath North Star Bay in Wolstenholme Fjord.
