We almost nuked a Spanish village π . . . On January 17, 1966, a US B-52 collided with a refueling tanker 31,000 feet above Palomares, Spain. Four hydrogen bombs fell. Two split open, scattering plutonium over the surrounding farmland. A fourth vanished into the Mediterranean for 80 days before a mini-sub found it at roughly 2,850 feet. Spain is still monitoring the soil.
