The man who invented Vaseline ate a spoonful of it every day π₯ . . . Robert Chesebrough, a Brooklyn chemist, scraped 'rod wax' off oil rigs in Titusville, Pennsylvania in 1865 and boiled it into petroleum jelly, patenting it in 1872. To prove it was safe he burned himself with acid, smeared it on, and swallowed a spoonful daily for the rest of his life. He died in 1933. He was 96.
