The Men Who Broke the Rules and Lived July 6, 1988. North Sea oil rig Piper Alpha. A gas leak ignited. Workers were trained to wait in the accommodation block. The block filled with smoke. The men who obeyed died there. Andy Mochan jumped into flaming water. He survived.
