Quaaludes started as a malaria cure. πŸ’Š

Quaaludes started as a malaria cure. πŸ’Š . . . In 1951, Indian chemists Kacker and Zaheer synthesized methaqualone to fight malaria. It failed. William H. Rorer Inc. of Pennsylvania then repackaged it in the 1960s as a 'safe, non-addictive' sleeping pill for the American market. By 1972 it was the sixth-best-selling sedative in America. It took the DEA until 1984 to ban it.
