On July 21, 2026, France became the first EU country to ban social media for all children under 15, with both chambers of parliament voting in favor.

France just made history — and TikTok is not happy about it. AP reports that on July 21, 2026, French lawmakers voted in both chambers to ban children under 15 from using social media entirely, making France the first country in the European Union to pass a blanket ban on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat for minors. The law also bans mobile phones in high schools and requires age verification from platforms. France — the birthplace of liberté — just put a hard stop on kids scrolling. Source in first comment.
