In January 2007, the failing Kishigawa Line in Wakayama, Japan appointed a calico stray named Tama as stationmaster of Kishi Station. She wore a tiny cap, greeted commuters from a booth, and pulled in an estimated 1.1 billion yen for the local economy over her tenure. Her funeral in 2015 drew 3,000 mourners.
