On March 22, 1978, 73-year-old Karl Wallenda stepped onto a wire strung 121 feet above San Juan between the towers of the Condado Plaza Hotel. He'd walked wires for six decades without a net. Winds hit 30 mph. He grabbed the cable, held on for seconds, then dropped onto a taxi stand as cameras rolled.
