Doctors cured morphine addiction by prescribing cocaine. π . . . In 1884, a young Sigmund Freud published 'Γber Coca' praising cocaine as harmless. He prescribed it to his friend Ernst von Fleischl-Marxow, a morphine addict. Fleischl started injecting a full gram a day, hallucinated snakes crawling under his skin, and died in agony in 1891 at age 45. Freud never publicly apologized.
