On April 20, 2008, Father Adelir Antônio de Carli, 41, strapped himself to a chair beneath 1,000 helium balloons in Paranaguá, Brazil to raise money for a truckers' chapel. Winds pushed him out over the Atlantic. His last radio call reported he couldn't work the GPS. His body was found by a tugboat about 60 miles off the coast of Rio de Janeiro two months later.
