The Counting Chimp

The Counting Chimp Sheba lived at Ohio State University. Researcher Sarah Boysen taught her Arabic numerals. The chimp matched digits 0 through 4 to quantities. Then Boysen hid oranges in two locations. Sheba mentally added them and pointed to the correct number. She was doing arithmetic without ever seeing the totals.
