Pack Up Your Troubles Felix Powell wrote a song in 1915. 'Pack up your troubles… and smile, smile, smile.' Soldiers sang it in the trenches for morale. It became the anthem of British optimism. On February 10, 1942, Powell shot himself. He was wearing his Home Guard uniform. The smile did not save him.
