In 1998, workers restoring 36 Craven Street pried up basement bricks and found a pit packed with fragments from at least 15 bodies. The remains dated to the 1770s, when Franklin's tenant William Hewson ran a secret anatomy school there. Bodies were bought from grave robbers and dissected in the founding father's basement.
