A 1930s eyelash dye could blind you permanently. πŸ‘οΈ . . . In 1933, Lash Lure promised dark lashes that lasted. Its p-phenylenediamine triggered ulcers, swelling and severe eye damage; the FDA records cases of blindness and 1 death. The scandal helped drive the 1938 law expanding federal control over cosmetics. Beauty had become a chemical gamble.
