In 1958, the US Army accidentally irradiated an entire town in Tennessee while testing nuclear weapons effects on vegetables

The military nuked vegetables and poisoned a town. Operation Plumbbob exposed crops to nuclear radiation intentionally. Radioactive particles drifted over Oak Ridge residents. The Army never warned civilians about exposure. People developed cancers years later from contamination.
