Pelorus Jack guided ships to deadly waters for 24 years. π¬ . . . From about 1888 to 1912, the Risso's dolphin met vessels near French Pass, New Zealand, and escorted them to the turbulent currents. After someone reportedly shot at him, an Order in Council protected him in 1904. The local pilot nobody hired was a wild dolphin.
