An 85-year-old ex-Prime Minister wheelbarrowed 32,000 books to his own library. π . . . In 1895, William Gladstone pushed a wheelbarrow three-quarters of a mile from Hawarden Castle to the 'Tin Tabernacle' in Flintshire, load after load, moving his personal library book by book. He was 85. The permanent stone library, built after his death in 1902, still lends them out today β the only residential library founded by a UK PM.
