The Dolphin Who Understood Grammar

The Dolphin Who Understood Grammar Akeakamai lived in a Honolulu lab from 1978. Trainers taught her gestural words. Over two dozen of them. Then they tested word order in four-word sentences. She knew 'ball to hoop' meant something different than 'hoop to ball.' She had grasped syntax. She died in 2003.
