Spain lost a hydrogen bomb in a tomato field. π . . . On January 17, 1966, a US B-52 collided with a KC-135 fuel tanker over Palomares, Spain. Four Mark 28 H-bombs fell. Two split open on impact and dusted 2 sq km of farmland with plutonium. A fourth bomb sank into the Mediterranean β the Navy needed 80 days and a submersible to find it about 777 meters down.
