Margarine was legally forced to look pink. 🧈 . . . New Hampshire passed an 1891 law requiring oleomargarine to be dyed pink so shoppers would not mistake it for butter. Merchant Joseph Collins was fined $100 for selling an undyed package. In 1898, the US Supreme Court struck the law downβ€”making pink margarine a failed weapon in the butter wars.
