A rocket-fuel factory exploded and knocked the Space Shuttle offline π₯ . . . On May 4, 1988, the PEPCON plant in Henderson, Nevada caught fire. Inside sat 4,500 tons of ammonium perchlorate β Space Shuttle oxidizer. The blasts hit 3.5 on the Richter scale, shattered windows 10 miles away, and vaporized half of America's shuttle fuel supply in 20 minutes.
